It's Been A While: Why I Paused YouTube and What’s Next
Hey there,
You might have noticed I’ve been a bit quiet on YouTube lately. I wanted to share why I took a break and what I’ve been up to.
Why I Took a Break from YouTube
The key to success on YouTube (or anything, really) is consistency. Last year and this year, I traveled a lot, which made it tough to create high-quality content regularly. I tried posting sporadically, but I wasn’t enjoying it. In times like that, taking a longer break to recharge and figure out what you want is best.
I also wanted to focus more on Unicorn Factory. When choosing between projects, it’s all about trading off resources—time and money. I designed Unicorn Factory to be self-sufficient, but it still needs my attention.
Last year, I almost sold Unicorn Factory. That process opened my eyes to the opportunities a potential sale could bring and the weaknesses my business needs to address if I ever want to get there.
So, I decided to take a break from YouTube and put my energy into fixing the parts of Unicorn Factory that were holding me back from taking it to the next level.
What I Am Working on Now
I’ve just wrapped up a 9-month block focused on Unicorn Factory. I’ve made some big changes to the business and improved the platform. Now, it’s ready to do its thing. I’m shifting my focus back to the course business and YouTube.
Here’s what I’m working on now:
- A new version of my “How to Build a Marketplace Without Code” workshop.
- Reworking outdated courses to update them with my latest processes and reflect new tools.
- Unlisting old YouTube videos that are no longer relevant. I still have archived videos on my website, but I want to make sure my YouTube content reflects the advice I would give today.
Beyond Work
At the end of May this year, I ran my first-ever marathon. When I signed up at the start of the year, I felt a bit out of my depth. I never thought I could run the full distance.
My goal was to run the entire race without walking. I had run a half marathon the previous year, and doing two in one day seemed like a massive challenge. So, I hired a coach to help me prepare. I did a 16-week training block, running five times a week and up to 80km at my peak. My coach wanted me to set a time goal, so I aimed for under 4 hours.
Three days before the race, we adjusted the target to 3 hrs 45 mins based on my training. If you had told me at the start that would be my target, I would have called you CRAZY.
I ended up finishing in 3 hrs 38 mins. Everything that could have gone right did, and everything that could have gone wrong didn’t. A few days later, I reflected on what I learned from this experience: If you set a goal, get help from experts, and most importantly, do the work, you are capable of more than you think.
While this isn’t work-related, the same principles apply to anything you work on.
Thanks for sticking with me through this journey. I’m excited to get back to creating and sharing with you all.
Best,
Connor
